Joseph M. Gagnon is a mixed media painter, and music producer born in Redlands, CA. His work is created in the styles of cubism and neo-expressionism, with elements of graffiti.
Inspired by rap music, and the concept of staying tough in the face of adversity, Joseph focuses his art on the idea that no one is alone in any hardship they are confronted with, because all humans are connected by the fact that we all face hardship of some kind.
Constantly creating new and different artworks, Joseph communicates these ideas through symbols, characteristics of lines, color patterns, and abstract faces who’s emotions are a representation of pain caused by adversity, and joy caused by humans coming together.
Artist’s Statement for “Human Rights Bank of America”
This piece is a representation of the evil and inconsideration of the Supreme Court judges who allowed for the stripping away of the human right to abortion by overturning a 50 year old law, ultimately causing nationwide emotional damage and pain.
The piece shows a man in a suit with ‘SCOTUS’ and an American flag logo both embroidered into the suit.
The man is walking away from a burning, and exploding “Human Rights Bank of America” and is holding a bag in his hand with the word “CHOICE$” written on it. The writing on the piece reads, “We have robbed you of your right to choose. Our prayers have been answered. - The Supreme Court of the United States of America.” Close to the center of the piece, there is a grave stone with the writing, “ROE 1973-2022”.
