“The Intimate Sublime takes its name from an essay by the poet Stanley Plumly, where he says "scale is a measurement that finds its dimensions within us". One thing I have come to understand is that there is no such thing as simplicity. Images are a form of visual poetry, where elements communicate with us on a grand personal scale. Individually, we experience paintings first as a question, then reach into ourselves to make sense of what we see. The past couple of years have forced many to recreate their internal spaces, both physical and cognitive to adapt to imposing stress. While personal and introspective, our imagination and how it manifests itself physically is vast. I'm also very fond of acronyms. The Intimate Sublime translates to "TIS", or "it is", which is a definitive expression of a truthful statement, of certainty. The element of the unknown in this body of work asks the viewer to connect with the immense, frightening, fascinating and wondrous dimensions that exist within all of us, and to never forget that these dimensions are intimately theirs.”
